SUMUTONE.COM | TANJUNGBALAI – Tanjungbalai Mayor Mahyaruddin Salim has inspected road repair work along Jalan Asahan and Jalan Veteran in South Tanjungbalai District, urging business owners to stop using road shoulders to display goods or conduct commercial activities once the roads have been resurfaced.
The inspection took place on Saturday, October 10, 2026, accompanied by Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUTR) Head Tety Juliani Siregar and several municipal government officials.
Mahyaruddin said the visit was intended to monitor construction progress, ensure the work follows the planned schedule, engage with residents, and support workers in the field.
“Road infrastructure is a basic community need because it directly affects people’s mobility and daily activities,” he said.
The mayor also asked residents to support the ongoing repairs and pray for the work to proceed smoothly and finish on schedule.
Road Repairs to Improve Safety and Mobility
The projects on Jalan Asahan and Jalan Veteran are currently undergoing initial site clearing and road-width measurements before proceeding to the next stages, including asphalt resurfacing.
The Tanjungbalai Municipal Government has also pledged to repair other damaged roads gradually as part of its broader effort to improve urban infrastructure and public services.
Mahyaruddin said better road conditions would improve travel comfort and safety while supporting transportation and economic activity across the city.
Mayor Warns Businesses Against Using Road Shoulders
During the inspection, Mahyaruddin spoke directly with residents and business owners operating along the two roads. He specifically warned traders against using road shoulders to dry fish, display merchandise, or set up sales stalls after the resurfacing work is completed.
“I hope everyone conducting business along Jalan Asahan and Jalan Veteran will stop using the road shoulders to place their merchandise, dry fish, or set up stalls once these roads have been asphalted,” Mahyaruddin said.
He added that the city government also intends to develop Jalan Veteran into a commercial center, making orderly road use essential to the area’s future development.
“We want this city to be clean, orderly, and well-maintained, not dirty and chaotic. We do not want to see residents or business owners using road shoulders to place their merchandise after the roads have been repaired,” he said.
City Government to Monitor Road Conditions
Mahyaruddin called on residents and business owners to work with the municipal government to maintain clean and orderly streets.
He said the government would continue monitoring conditions along Jalan Asahan and Jalan Veteran to ensure the road improvements deliver lasting benefits to residents, traders, and visitors.
“We hope the community will join us in caring for this city and keeping it clean and orderly. We will continue monitoring conditions on the ground to ensure the improvements are effective and benefit everyone who lives in or visits Tanjungbalai,” he said.
The municipal government expects the road repairs and improved street management to support safer transportation, more organized commercial activity, and a better urban environment.
