Tanjungbalai Immigration Office Issues 29,333 Passports by August 2026, Expands Services in Asahan

SUMUTONE.COM | TANJUNGBALAI — The Tanjungbalai Asahan Class II Immigration Office (Kanim TBA) has expanded passport services across its operational area, issuing 39,609 passports in 2025 and another 29,333 from January through August 2026.

The expansion aims to make immigration services more accessible, allowing residents to apply for passports at several service locations without having to travel to the main immigration office in Tanjungbalai.

Passport services are currently available at the Kanim TBA main office, the Labuhanbatu Passport Service Unit (ULP), the Asahan Public Service Mall (MPP), the Batubara Public Service Mall, and the Kisaran Immigration Lounge.

The network of service points is part of the office’s efforts to improve public access, convenience, and the overall quality of passport services.

Passport Services Record Strong Numbers

Throughout 2025, Kanim TBA issued 39,609 passports across its service network. Of that total, 32,205 passports were processed at the main office, while the Labuhanbatu Passport Service Unit handled the remaining 7,404.

From January through August 2026, the office issued another 29,333 passports. The main office processed 25,692 passports, while the Labuhanbatu unit accounted for 3,641.

The figures reflect substantial demand for passport services across the region and reinforce the need to improve access and service quality.

Kisaran Immigration Lounge Offers Saturday Services

To bring passport services closer to residents, Kanim TBA opened the Kisaran Immigration Lounge in February 2026.

The facility provides an alternative passport service location for residents of Asahan Regency and surrounding areas, particularly those seeking a more accessible place to complete their applications.

From its opening through August 2026, the Kisaran Immigration Lounge issued 741 passports.

One of its key advantages is its Saturday service schedule, which gives residents who cannot take time off work on weekdays another opportunity to apply for passports.

Immigration Office Pledges Better Public Services

Acting Head of the Tanjungbalai Asahan Class II Immigration Office, Gelora Adil Ginting, said the expansion of service locations reflects the office’s commitment to making immigration services more accessible.

Speaking on Saturday, October 10, 2026, Gelora said the Kisaran Immigration Lounge offers residents of Kisaran and nearby areas an alternative location that is easier to reach than the main office in Tanjungbalai.

“The expansion of service locations demonstrates our commitment to bringing immigration services closer to the public. With the Kisaran Immigration Lounge, residents of Kisaran and surrounding areas have an alternative location for passport services without having to visit the main Kanim TBA office,” Gelora said.

He added that Saturday services provide greater flexibility for residents who are unable to leave work during regular weekdays.

Gelora said the office would continue evaluating each service location to maintain service standards, focusing on accessibility, processing speed, and public convenience.

“We will continue to evaluate and improve every service location in terms of accessibility, service speed, and public convenience. We will also encourage innovation to ensure that immigration services are delivered optimally, transparently, and in accordance with community needs,” he said.

Kanim TBA reaffirmed its commitment to improving services across its network and developing innovations that respond to public needs.

Through the expanded network, the office hopes to provide more accessible, transparent, accountable, and higher-quality passport services for residents across Tanjungbalai, Asahan, Labuhanbatu, and Batubara.
