Medan Baru Police Chief Duets with Female Officer, Entertaining Residents at Kesawan Car-Free Day

SUMUTONE.COM | MEDAN — The Car-Free Day (CFD) event at Merdeka Square in the Kesawan area of Medan was filled with music and excitement on Sunday morning, October 11, 2026, as young officers from the North Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumut) entertained residents with live performances.

The highlight took place in front of the Kesawan Post Office building, where Medan Baru Police Chief Commissioner G. Hutabarat teamed up with a female police officer to sing for the crowd. Accompanied by the police band, the duo delivered an energetic performance that attracted the attention of residents enjoying their Sunday morning activities.

People who had gathered for jogging, cycling, and other outdoor activities stopped to enjoy the music, creating a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in the heart of Medan.

Event coordinator Ipda Dedi SP said the performance was organized to entertain members of the public attending the Kesawan Car-Free Day.

“These activities are regularly held to entertain the public. We hope they bring benefits and make people happy,” Dedi said.

He explained that the police band consists of young personnel whose musical talents continue to be developed through ongoing coaching and training. According to Dedi, the program’s development dates back to the tenure of Commissioner General Drs. Ridwan Zulkarnain Panca Putra Simanjuntak, M.Si., North Sumatra Police Chief.

Through public music performances and community activities, the police aim to strengthen their relationship with residents and demonstrate a more approachable, people-oriented image.

Beyond their role in law enforcement, police officers can also engage with the community through social activities and public entertainment. The performance at Kesawan Car-Free Day offered an opportunity for officers and residents to interact in a relaxed setting.

With live music, exercise, and friendly interactions bringing people together, the event added a lively atmosphere to Sunday morning in downtown Medan.

The performance also highlighted how community-based activities can create opportunities for closer engagement between the police and the people they serve.
