SUMUTONE.COM | RANTAUPRAPAT — Tensions rose at Rantauprapat Regional General Hospital (RSUD Rantauprapat) on Saturday night, October 10, 2026, when North Sumatra Police (Polda Sumut) Internal Affairs Chief Commissioner Bulang Bayu Samudra made an unexpected visit to a patient reportedly shot by a police officer in an oil palm plantation area.
The senior officer, who holds the rank of police commissioner with three gold stars, visited Rahmat Alfian, 34, who was reportedly in critical condition following a shooting at PT Perkebunan Milano’s Cabang Dua Estate, part of the Wilmar Group, on Friday afternoon, October 9.
The visit was intended to check on Rahmat’s condition after the incident involving an alleged shooting by a police officer. However, the visit was followed by a tense exchange between police officials and journalists seeking clarification.
After a closed-door meeting with the victim, senior police officials declined to provide substantive explanations to reporters about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The atmosphere in the hospital corridor grew tense as journalists began recording the arrival and departure of the police delegation.
Labuhanbatu Police Chief AKBP Wahyu was seen positioning himself between the officials and the journalists, restricting reporters’ access as they attempted to obtain an official statement.
“Later, okay,” Wahyu said briefly while waving his right hand and moving quickly toward the hospital elevator with the delegation.
The officials left without answering the journalists’ questions about the shooting incident.
The visit comes amid public concern over the alleged shooting of a civilian in an oil palm plantation area. Questions remain about the circumstances of the incident, the actions of the officer involved, and the progress of any internal investigation.
Further clarification from the police is needed to establish the sequence of events and explain what measures are being taken in response to the incident.
