SUMUTONE.COM | DELI SERDANG – North Sumatra Police, in coordination with the National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) of North Sumatra, the Indonesian military, local government officials, and joint personnel, raided a suspected drug abuse hotspot along the riverbank on Jalan M. Yusuf Jintan, Percut Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency, on Sunday, October 11, 2026.
The raid, conducted under the Drug Den Eradication Operation (Gerebek Sarang Narkoba or GSN), was led by North Sumatra Police Narcotics Investigation Director Commissioner Andy Arisandi.
Authorities detained 37 people during the operation. Urine tests showed that 27 tested positive for drugs, while eight others tested negative and were returned to their families.
Two additional individuals are suspected of acting as drug dealers following an assessment and will face legal proceedings in accordance with applicable law.
Andy said the operation was carried out in response to the President’s directive to the National Police Chief to intensify efforts against drug trafficking and abuse.
“Following the President’s directive to the National Police Chief, we, together with the North Sumatra Police Narcotics Directorate, BNNP North Sumatra, Medan City Police, the military, and local government, are conducting a drug den eradication operation in Percut Sei Tuan District,” Andy said.
During the raid, officers seized 100 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 52 homemade drug-smoking devices known as bongs, 100 glass pipes, 25 lighters, and three digital scales.
Authorities also discovered five dingdong gambling machines, three bags of gambling tokens, and Rp1,635,000 in cash.
Other items seized included 19 communication devices, one tablet, one car, four motorcycles, one machete-like weapon, three knives, and eight counterfeit Rp100,000 banknotes.
Andy said the 27 individuals who tested positive for drugs would undergo further assessment to determine appropriate rehabilitation measures. Meanwhile, the two individuals suspected of dealing drugs would be processed under the law.
Andy stressed that the operation was not a one-off effort. North Sumatra Police would continue taking action to disrupt drug trafficking networks in Percut Sei Tuan, with public cooperation playing a key role.
“We urge the public, especially residents of Percut Sei Tuan, to protect our community and North Sumatra from the damage caused by drugs. We cannot do this alone. Together with the community, we will fight drugs,” he said.
He also assured residents that officers would maintain their presence in the area and continue efforts to combat illegal drug distribution.
“We are here today, we will be here tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, and we will continue to be here. We are determined to free Percut Sei Tuan from drug trafficking, with the support of the community,” Andy said.
North Sumatra Police urged residents to report information about suspected drug activity and strengthen cooperation with the police, the National Narcotics Agency, the military, and local authorities to prevent drug abuse and illegal trafficking.
